3G Joint Licensing Program
On September 24, 2015, 3G Licensing S.A., a subsidiary of the Sisvel Group, announced the acquisition of a substantial portfolio of patents and patent applications formerly owned by Orange S.A..
This portfolio comprises more than 400 patents and patent applications. These patents cover technologies used in a wide range of mobile communications devices and services. In particular, 27 of the families included in the Orange Patents have been deemed essential to UMTS, the third generation mobile communication technology standard.
On February 22, 2017, KPN and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. decided to join the 3G Licensing Program, further emphasizing the importance of this program. This decision simplifies the licensing activity by aggregating 3G essential patents from various patent owners into a single license, thus greatly increasing the value of the 3G Licensing license offer for all companies implementing and commercializing 3G compliant products.
On February 14, 2018, Sisvel International S.A. contributed its patents (formerly owned by Nokia) to the 3G Licensing Program.
The 3G Licensing Program is committed to offering access to such core technologies under FRAND terms to foster technological innovation and to support a level playing field.
